A Leaf on the Wind – Being For the Benefit of Ms. Chandrayaan

Another blog post within 48 hours, you guys are gonna start expecting these!

So I got asked if I would share some of the goodies that are at the ‘A Leaf on the Wind’ event going on right now inworld. See, Scarlet Chandrayaan is very sick. This isn’t folks doing a benefit for her to deal with medical issues but instead, putting together some lindens so she can realize her dream of visiting London.

Folks who know me RL would not be surprised I would feel I had to participate in this little dream: London is one of my favorite places on the planet. So… I went around and picked up a few things, and brought them home.

Where the Wild Things Are

The night Max wore his wolf suit and made mischief of one kind
and another
His mother called him “WILD THING!”
And Max said “I’LL EAT YOU UP!”
so he was sent to bed without eating anything.

-Maurice Sendak, ‘Where The Wild Things Are

I imagine that a lot of us are familiar with the book; I imagine some of us are even huge fans.  I’m one of those huge fans, I have to admit: just transcribing the above got me a little sniffly. When I heard about the Wild Things summer gacha I definitely wanted to have a look at it (and you should have a peek if you like wild animals, too! There’s some fun gachas there!)

Well, Uriah Eulenberg is also a fan of the book, apparently.

We’re all used to Balaclava!! (his store) producing intricately detailed funny little objects, like the wee robots that go ‘ping’, or the playset of construction equipment.  Here’s something he did for Wild Things as a gift.
A gift.
It is free.

It tells time (you can reset the clock to your own timezone; it’s SLT by default), and the little figures in the dome rotate around the fire, just like in the Wild Rumpus panel in Mr. Sendak’s book. Here’s a closer shot of them:

And yes, it’s a gift. That means you can have it for free if you visit the Wild Things Summer Gacha event! And ONLY if you visit the Wild Things event: it won’t be available in his store, or anywhere else, afterwards.

If you’re curious what other cleverness Uriah’s got out at his store, you should click here to visit Balaclava!!.

We are the Hollow Men.

So I went browsing around for things to spend lindens on a few nights ago, and came up with… the Robin (Sojourner) Wood gacha at Oh My Gacha!, which is named ‘Manny’.  Manny is a little mannequin, of the sort an artist might have on his desk to draw from.  He’s cute! He’s rare! He’s debonair like Fred Astaire!

He’s resizeable! He’s bright! He sheds a light!

And of course, when he closes his eyes and contemplates the wheel of dharma, he’s mystical.

If you need Manny in your own home, visit the OMGacha fair and look for the Robin (Sojourner) Wood gacha there.  More information on OMGacha is here!

Coin. Operated Boy.

So I decided I’d try to learn the melody that the ContraptioN Orchestrion ‘Historia de Novo’ plays.  It’s tricky.
Thankfully, I have a captive audience while I practice: a batch of Half-Deer’s Woodland Animals.

And I have a couple good lights to see what I’m doing, too: the Trompe Loeil Deco Floor Lamp and the bbqq Silhouette Lamp – Owl.

And a toy piano from Balaclava!! to try to learn it on.

Yeah, it’s more stuff from The Arcade.  That’s still running for a week, in case you needed something out of it!

At the Bottom of Everything – The Thrift Shop

We must hang up in the belfry where the bats in moonlight laugh
We must stare into a crystal ball and only see the past
And in the caverns of tomorrow with our flashlights and our love
We must plunge, we must plunge, we must plunge
And then we’ll get down there,
way down to the very bottom of everything
and then we’ll see it, we’ll see it, we’ll see it

so Nia did a gacha of pinwheels, which you can find for L$30/pull here.
A while back, Balaclava! did a gacha full of trickster’s toys for The Arcade, including Circe’s wand that would turn someone’s head into that of a pig.  Sadly, this item’s no longer available.
A further while back I bought a Helter-Skelter amusement park ride from Sammi Sosa off the marketplace.
And very recently, I got some clothes from the Menstuff hunt! A stylecard for Menstuff gifts follows.

Shoes: Mona Lisa Couture, ‘Hiking Boots’
Shirt, Jacket, Pants: StormCrow Designs ‘Jacket Shirt’ & ‘Black Leather Pants’
Skin: Peer Style ‘Perry’

Put it all together, I have done something that makes no sense but makes me giggle.

HERMES was the great Olympian God of animal husbandry, roads, travel, hospitality, heralds, diplomacy, trade, thievery, language, writing, persuasion, cunning wiles, athletic contests, gymnasiums, astronomy, and astrology. He was also the personal agent and herald of Zeus, the king of the gods. Hermes was depicted as either a handsome and athletic, beardless youth, or as an older bearded man. His attributes included the herald’s wand or kerykeion (Latin caduceus), winged boots, and sometimes a winged travellers cap and chlamys cloak.

Hermes was the god of the birds of omen, birds despatched from heaven under the divine inspiration of prophetic Apollon. Only seers, under the god’s patronage, could distinguish birds of omen from those “idly-chattering” and interpret their divine messages.
Hermes was heaven’s herald and so was naturally regarded as the source of those other winged messengers of heaven – the birds of omen.

I Beat The Arcade

The final boss was hard.

I am wearing the tee*fy ‘feather headdress (RARE)’ from The Arcade, in this photo.  I had frankly assumed I’d never get it, but someone I knew got a spare in a trade, and we figured out what I could give her that she’d want in exchange for what I wanted.  Excellent!

I wanted it because of the frankly stunning level of detail in the textures, the beautiful sculpts.  It’s at The Arcade, for a limited time only (like, 2 more days!)
